Firstly, having to spend all my spirit on refilling my health is a double-whammy. Continuing should do so instead but not only that, you can't use other spirit options.
Secondly, I'm up to Father Brain and frontal attacks don't work but there is no (permanent) objects to bounce off, so I don't know how to complete the level. EDIT: side attacks do work.
Thirdly, I wish there was a way to Retry fights without having to skip thru dialogue, map traversal, a VS animation and an intro dialogue every single time.
Lastly, the gutters pick up the ball WAY too easily and the FB battle has no bumpers from the beginning.
In general, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to play the game. It seems aiming your ball, avoiding projectiles while also collecting powerups all work against each other.
It's otherwise an enjoyable game, mostly for the graphics and humour with a unique playstyle.
I finished the game. I appreciate all the work that went into it. I even liked the plug at the end (although I should have wrote it down. Clockwork Magpie by Emma Whitehall, I beleive?). I really did like all the puns btw.
This game RULES. I'm honestly horrible at it but the combat system is really unique and fascinating, and I was an instantaneous fan of the idea of a bowling RPG due to growing up playing tons of Canadian bowling. The battle system is actually even better than I was expecting it to be, too!
This seems like a great game if only I was actually good at it. Great work for creating a great sense of challenge. The music, sound design, gameplay, story and visuals are all really compelling. Can't wait to see more!
If I had to suggest anything, I just wish the ball customization was a bit more complete. It really feels like there's only 1 or 2 decent builds and different parts don't change much of the ball in the end.
But as I said, the game concept and execution was superb.
found this by accident, but honestly I had such a wonderful time! check it out if you'd like :)
(made it into three parts, I upload daily, so, more in the next few days)
on a personal note, I've actually been working on a sports rpg of my own for a while now and this game really motivated me to keep working on it. This has the potential of a full (albite small) game release! you should consider making it into one :)
The mechanics are a blast, the idea is inventive and fun, the sprite work is really really good and the music works (though I would definitely invest in that department a bit more)
All in all this was a wonderful time with this game and I wholeheartedly recommend it and thank you hwilson for it.
AAAAAAAA I LOOVEE IT!! Wish it was longer!! Do u plan on making a sequel? Prequel? Part 2? Or a new update? You should definitely, this was surprisingly fun! Love the simplicity. You get what you want, which is bowling! Love the pixel art and the gbc btw, gives me dem good ol nostalgia
Superb game with a great style! I feel like The rules of bowlingare implied in this game mixed with fantasy. Those is the final battle so sorry for spoilers
Incredible!!! Every game you make really is special but I think this one's my favorite. Thanks for making great games, you're a huge inspiration to me!
This was a delightful game, the perfect amount of quirk, nostalgia, and originality. It reminded me of a deep-cut NES game called "Pinball Quest" that combined pinball with an RPG. This was a similarly fun, unique, and colorful world to play in too. Also, this felt like the perfect length.
The final area was really tough, but I like that if you failed enough you could charge up and use the potion tech to fully heal.
The only thing I wish is that you could buy more in the shops, such as different bowling ball parts for your Customize menu. I would have liked to experiment with that a little more because after I found a build I liked I stopped messing with it. Either way, great game!
Pinball Quest was a big inspiration for this :) thanks for playing, glad you figured out my attempt at an anti frustration feature in the Potion after failures routine

The game was tolerable until the final area.

Any chance you'd bring this to GBC for real?
Honestly I'd like to, but that might be a little beyond my skill level
Rolling that choosing no blood just ends the game and brings you to the start menu again
Really charming and fun. Great work.
what a perfectly fun adventure bowling game!
Is this playable on a GBC? Asking since there are A B and D-pad buttons next to the PC controls.

Stay safe king <3
Thanks for enjoying it :) and now I'll always be reading the player dialogue in a Mario voice in my brain
PS - the dialogue about the King being the Tennis King is a reference to http://www.pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/World_Court.htm :)
Well now I'll have to check it out. can't believe I missed it in my research as I'm literally making a tennis rpg lol
btw my second part of your game is out, final part will be out tomorrow round the same time ;)
Your voice for the moles in the cave is perfect
that actually made me so happy to read lol, I'm always a bit nervous about doing voices :p
as promised, here's the final part.
thanks a bunch for the support, I really appreciate you watching, you're a cool dude! I'll check out your future projects for sure :)
el juego es bastante bueno, tiene buenas mecanicas y los personajes me gustan bastante
I... appreciate the gag for when you pick "no blood"
I think it might be the most popular feature
Any chance of a Gameboy/GBA ROM so I can play it on the go and show my friends on the go?

This was so much fun. I would have loved to have this on my NES back in the day. Keep up the great work!
